Honey, Honey, Honeymoon

We departed Vancouver very early on November 12th for our 5 hour journey to the Mayan Riviera...

We arrived mid-afternoon, so the first thing we did after checking in and waiting for our bags to finally arrive was grab lunch and a DRINK!

We marveled in the fact that we were both wearing wedding rings!

We spent the next day at the pool, which we did almost every day! It was heavenly!

.

We also met these little creatures, who were like Mexican versions of raccoons! They wanted everyone's food, but they also climbed the trees and broke open the coconuts to eat them right from the branches.

I have never slept so much in my entire life. I slept by the pool, on buses, in our room for an afternoon nap, on the beach... anywhere I could shut my eyes. The wedding was amazing, but drained me to no end and this was the BEST way to recover!

For the most part, the weather was gorgeous, but just as the weather network predicted, we had a few days where it clouded over and rained. The non-Canadians ran for cover, while those of us from Vancouver just stayed put. It was just like home, and we laughed at everyone escaping the pool!

We ate a lot of great food... as seen on the scale when we arrived home! The buffets were great, as was the majority of the a la carte restaurants.

I'd been to Purto Vallarta twice before this trip, but the beaches there just don't compare to the Mayan Riviera. The sand is white and soft, the waters are blue and clear, and the waves were high and magnificent!

We took 2 excursions while on our honeymoon. We had a hard time deciding, but knew we wanted to see the ruins, and we also chose to go into town.

The first trip was to Playa Del Carman.

We ate at a little authentic restaurant right on the main strip. We went with table-serviced guacamole and chips, and tortilla soup. For dinner, Aaron had chicken enchiladas and I had the chili reanos, which is my favorite Mexican dish aside from salsa and guacamole.

We also picked up 4 bottles of tequila, including this one for the bottle only.

On our second trip, we went to one of the ruins. It was a very long drive, but we felt that we should see something historic since that's what the area is known for around the world.

The next stop that day was to a cenote which is basically just a pool inside a cave. My husband wanted to repel into the cave, so I opted to wait at the bottom so I could take pictures. He looked like my own Superman doing that!

Once down, we swam in the water, and I used a rope pull to swing in!

All in all, our honeymoon was a vacation we will never forget! It was everything we could have wanted: romantic, fun, relaxing, adventurous, and so much more. We laughed a lot, kissed a lot, ate a lot, slept a lot, drank a lot, and reminisced a lot about the wedding.

We were sad to go home... but left with so many amazing memories!
